SGB Rovacabin Overcomes Building Regulations on School Installation

The building comprises 10 of SGB Rovacabin's 12 m x 3 m steel framed units interlinked and designed so that a second storey can be added at a later date. This was a high-value contract, which included the design and construction of foundations, services and utilities connections, plus access steps and ramps and associated paved footpaths. SGB Rovacabin was also required to sort out the planning and Building Regulations permissions - a function not normally associated with relocatable or temporary buildings. David White, sales director of SGB Rovacabin, comments: "The building incorporates full fit-out including air conditioning, acoustic screen and suspended ceiling. Externally, it is clad with textured pain and Euro-brick cladding and is topped out with a pitched roof."

"Planning was actually quite a challenge and involved us having to employ a specialist consultant to help ensure we could get the necessary permissions", says Mr White. "The whole planning process took about 12 weeks". For Queensmead School, the new block is a godsend. It provides badly-needed computer facilities for which there was no space in the existing school building. As Allan Walker, chairman of the school's Board of Governors, says: "It was a very pleasurable experience working with SGB Rovacabin", comments Mr Walker. "SGB Rovacabin immediately understood our requirements and we were very pleased to discover that such a high-specification building could be supplied so quickly. "Information technology is a vital part of the curriculum now and it is essential to provide proper tuition to equip students who will need these skills in the world of work". The new block has allowed the school to provide these facilities very quickly.
